 Lovely, soothing but energizing March 15, 2010

I've never heard of this group but am now thinking about buying some of their music. This song, which I am happy to say is ten minutes long, is wonderful, ethnic, soothing, soft background music, yet is has a beat going that keeps a kind of constant energy flowing.
It is kind of Indian, kind of hippy-ish, kind of mellow rock-and-roll-ish. If you're not into the Indian chanting in the beginning, stay with it and give it a chance--it evolves into a really cool folk-y rock melody with an imaginative and beautiful tribute to The Yardbirds' "For Your Love".
I hate to write using so many adjectives, but as Mark Twain said, "I apologize for the length of this [letter], but I didn't have time to write a short one."

To see a Krishna Das selection as a free download is a HUGE surprise. Devotional chanting is not what I would have seen coming here at all. Krishna Das takes this to a more western feel and with the various instrumentation on this track, he carries a solid beat above and beyond the call-and-response chanting. This is a pretty layered mix compared to some of the earlier Krishna Das music but his deep vocals still shine. I can't imagine anyone listening to this to not get carried away by the rhythm and vocal simplicity especially as the track transitions into the Yardbirds "For Your Love"!
This is a worthy download and a sweet hefty tune at 10 minutes. Even the dedicated Christian below liked the song, just not the eastern message. For me, I can't help but have a big grin while listening to this.

This is one of my two favorite free songs from Amazon, and a very clever mix of call and response between a soloist and a choir transforming gradually into the famous Yardbirds rock anthem "For Your Love", with the additional twist that the one whose love is being sought is the Hindu god "Shiva."
As a Christian whose speaks English, the words of the Shiva chant mean nothing to me, so I translate them in my head to devotion to God, but last night our Indian-American neighbor was visiting, and sang along, already knowing all the words because she is a devotee of Shiva. It was a truly interesting multicultural moment, with both of us very much enjoying the song, but finding different values in it.
Very melodic and soothing - listenable for hours, and all for free. Thanks Amazon!
Note: The For Your Love transition begins after the sample ends, so you'll have to download the song to hear it. But that effort is very worthwhile.

I looked up the title of the song and narayana=vischnu a hindu God. Google it yourself. While I actually liked the song, I feel duped by the translation.
