Customer Reviews: Cool, Velvet Underground-inspired instrumental piece August 14, 2010 Michael Lichter (Buffalo, NY USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, late of the band Luna, were commissioned by the Warhol museum to write and perform music for "13 Most Beautiful ... Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests". The screen tests were short black and white films of single individuals shot in Warhol's Factory in the early 1960s. (With the release of the DVD, several of them can now be seen on YouTube, along with Dean & Britta's music.)
"Silver Factory Theme," is a languid, sparse, guitar-led instrumental rocker with a distinct 1960s feel to it. I haven't listened to the rest of the album, but on this track Dean and Britta successfully capture the sound of the Velvet Underground, Warhol's house band, at their most mellow ("Heroin," "Sweet Jane"). It's simple and satisfying.
